Sick to my stomach, chest pains, and a headache: the last healing crisis was upon my return from Sedona, Arizona. I was leaving the BWI terminal with chest pains, wondering if I was having a heart attack. Why couldn’t I catch my breath? What was happening to me? I knelt down to give my head some space, and to try to discern what was occurring. I caught my breath and made it home.
Three days later, something was off. I wasn’t feeling like my full self, and noticed sensation in my stomach area (solar plexus chakra) and my chest area (heart chakra). This sensation/pain would go back and forth, travelling up to the chest, then back down to the stomach. I’m thinking, what did I eat? I always go to the physical first, like most of us do. But then I kept thinking, so much energy was shared during my time in Sedona. As I co-led a trauma training, I listened to the trauma experienced by some of the yoga teachers. And even though I did all of the things to prepare – meditation, asana, smudging – the collective trauma shared along with the accompanying energies had landed in my body. I become physically ill later that evening.
Once everything was purged, I took a spiritual bath with lemon balm, lemon grass and lemon verbena. I also took Alka Seltzer and it was like seeing an old friend. My stomach pain lessened. And this cleansing, this healing crisis was necessary for me to understand how to manage my empathic nature for the future.
